Acne Treatments At Home

Jenny asks…

What is a good home remedy or OTC medication for cystic acne?

I can’t afford a dermatologist right now, so cortisone shots are not an option. Topical acne treatments (those you put on the surface of your skin) do not help cystic acne because it is below the surface of the skin, so please don’t recommend any washes or scrubs. Are there any over-the-counter vitamins or pills that would help? Any foods to eat or avoid eating?

I have had cystic acne all of my life, it was horrible. I tried everything, I truly did and nothing worked. Finally I broke down and took accutane. Its a very serious strong drug but I’m almost completely clear and have been for a year!

Hey, I’ve been looking for a remedies for pimples too and thank god i found one which is homemade! YAY. Okay here goes:

Place, half a medium tomato, 3 teaspoons of lemon juice and a little bit of honey into a blender. Blend it until the mixture is frothy.. Apply it on your face and it will dry out by its self. When it does wash your face with WARM water. You will notice that your face will become visibly lighter AND some of your pimples are gone.

P.S Use daily for like.. 3 days for best results and the mixture dries out on your face in like 10 mins! Or if you want it to speed up, sit in front of a fan and use this before you go to bed. Best results then as well

Here’s another one: Pretty simple this one.. All you need is Honey and olive oil. Put the honey and olive oil in a bowl and mix it then apply it on your face. Honey is good because it kills all the bacteria in your face which gets rid of pimples. And the olive oil is really good too.

This probably is irrelevant but im going to mention anyway.. If you want your lips to be lighter and pink, you could put some lemon juice and honey on them and they will become lighter eventually..

I probably bored you with my talk but i hope i helped!! Xx

Remove any make-up you have on. Wearing make-up can clog pores, making them dirty and causing pimples. Also try to wear oil-free makeup (if you have oily skin) or a medicated makeup.

Use a mild soap for sensitive skin but it doesn’t matter exactly what type of soap you use. It can be designed for acne-prone skin or not, but you will want to treat your skin gently. Harsh antibacterial soap may actually make your acne worse by irritating skin.

Remove dead skin cells regularly by exfoliating. Use a gentle scrub with natural defoliants like ground walnut shells, or use an over-the-counter chemical defoliant like salicylic acid or glycolic acid. Adding ground walnut shell to a thick moisturizer like cocoa butter can be effective too. Take caution, because over-exfoliating can actually increase the likelihood of acne by irritating the skin. Pat dry, rather than rubbing, since rubbing can cause irritation to the fresh skin you’ve just revealed.

Use a good toner. Spray onto face or wipe on with a cotton ball and wipe off with a clean, dry cotton ball. This gets rid of excess cleanser and tightens pores. Good, inexpensive choices include plain witch hazel for normal to dry skin, lemon juice, or 3% hydrogen peroxide for oily skin. 70% ethyl rubbing alcohol can also be used for severe oiliness, but it can really dry out your skin and irritate it more. Some toners are medicated, and this stage is the best for using a medicated product if you’re only going to use one medication.

Bye…
