Acne Treatments That Actually Work

Donna asks…

What do you suggest on acne treatment that actually works?

Because I just finished using a bottle of Clean&Clear Acne Wash and it does not work and I also try the Blackhead Clearing Scrub by Clean&Clear and it doesn’t work either. So what worked for you?
proactive is not an option

There is no one brand that works well for this, so don’t get married to a brand name or a product description. Here’s what you need:
(1) A non-irritating face cleanser. I use Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin or Neutrogena One Step Gentle Cleanser. Seriously, a too-strong cleanser will just make your skin break out more.
(2) If you main problem is blackheads, get an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) product. What this does is gently exfoliate the surface of your skin PLUS the inside of the pores, which loosens and quickly gets rid of blackheads. I use Paula’s Choice 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Liquid, but you could also use Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion or Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion (either the regular one, or the one for Sensitive Skin).
(3) Lastly (and this is the real gets-rid-of-blemishes part), you need a 5% or 10% Benzoyl Peroxide product. I would suggest Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 10, Maximum Strength, but if that is too strong and your skin gets too dry, try Paula’s Choice Extra Strength Blemish Fighting Solution, which only has 5%.
Incidentally, I don’t work for Paula’s Choice, or anything, and you certainly don’t need to use those products (which you can only get from the website), it’s just that I found them to be cheaper than all the alternatives.
Sounds like you’re already on the right track by refusing to believe that ProActiv hype and crazy marketing! Good luck!

Lizzie asks…

If I wear full cover makeup during the day but I use an acne cleanser and cream is that good enough?

I use a acne cleanser in the morining and at night.
I also wear an acne cream at night.
But if i wear make up during the day is this making the acne treatment useless?
I know makeup doesent help it, but hey im not going to sacrfice the makeup.
So does it still make a diffrence? even if it takes the acne to clear up takes a little longer because the makeup its better than not working at all.

There is makeup out there for acne prone skin that say it actually helps get rid of acne, if you use those then you should be ok to wear the makeup, since they help it anyway.

Richard asks…

How to get rid of minor acne?

I have minor acne, about 5 or 6 big pimples and a couple of smaller ones. I use an acne treatment, it worked for the first two months but it’s not working anymore. Is there a way that I can get rid of acne for a longer period?

I don’t know any Long term acne treatments, you should probably see a dermatologist about that.. But I do know a little home remedy that actually works to help get rid of a zit:
Things you’ll need-
Small cup of warm water
Cotton balls

Put the salt in the water, alot of salt, much more than you think
Next, dip one cotton ball in the salty water for 30-60 seconds, then squeeze it out but make sure it’s still damp
Place the wet cotton ball on your large zit, if there are small ones near it, try to cover those with the cotton ball too.. Leave it on the zit(s) for exactly 3 minutes.
Next, take two cotton balls and dip them in the salty water for 30-60 seconds squeeze them until they are damp then place cotton balls on both sides of the zit(s) and slowly bring them closer, do that for 3 minutes then your done and you can repeat this as needed. Do not pop the pimple!
This method works because the salt eats away the zit and the warm water will reduce the swelling.

Other than this, If you want a product that actually works awesome, try DHC salicylic acne wash, toner, face milk & spot therapy.
I use this and omg I love it, can’t live without it! The spot therapy will make a zit vanish overnight
