Those drugstore treatments are not as fast as salasylic acid. You can go to Macy’s that has Origens and get it there. It costs around $30 but it will get rid of it overnight if you use in the afternoon.

Mary asks…

What are some fast and easy ways to get rid of acne and oily skin?

I’m using two different prescribed creams that my doctor told me to use, and it seems to make the acne clear up a bit. However, I stil break out, and because my face is oily, the blemishes caused by the pimples last a long time. I tried so many over-the-counter cleansers and such, but to be honest, nothing works. I hear that cucumber and lemon juice is a good way to fight oil, and steaming your face will help clear the pores. Is this true, and what are some other easy ways to help fight acne and oil, something preferrably that can be done at home?

Any techniques you use will be only temporary fixes, and that’s the truth. You will eventually grown out of this oily stage, but until then, the best you can do is “manage” it. Beware of steaming–it can burn! Beware of harsh masks, alcohol, and abrasives, which can all aggravate your skin.

Here are some tips:
1. Cleanse at night, removing all makeup. Be gentle! You may find that a foaming cleanser for sensitive skin actually works better than one labeled for acne. Follow up with one of your prescribed creams.
2. In the morning, wash your face with just warm water and a clean cloth.
3. Check out oil mattifying products–Mary Kay makes a great one. They smooth on over your clean skin and help absorb oil during the day.
4. Do you wear makeup? If so, check into mineral foundations. They are so gentle and natural and won’t “melt” off your skin the way liquids do. Jane, Avon, and L’oreal make great ones you can buy at the drugstore.
5. Stay away from creamy makeup products. Use powder forms of blush and eyeshadow.
6. Blot often during the day. Mary Kay makes Beauty Blotters that come in a little pack for $5. They are so thin you will think they’re paper, but they are actually linen. You press the little tissues gently along the oily places and it absorbs the excess. In a pinch–a square of toilet paper!

I wish I could tell you that you could “get rid” of this oil, but that’s just not going to happen…yet. Your skin issues are caused by hormones, not oil or dirt, but with care you can manage them.
