Treatments For Acne Scars

Nancy asks…

What is the best lifestyle treatment for acne scars?

Hi, just wanted to know some effective hints on how I can help my acne scars to fade away without having to consult a dermatologist?
eg. sleeping more, drinking more water etc

You could probably try the over-the-counter creams such as Scar Zone or Mederma. Ask a doctor or call your local pharmacy and ask them.

How fast does it take your face to look better after laser treatment?

I am getting married next year and I want to get laser treatment for the acne scars along my jaw line (theyre raised scars). What kind of process do they use for this, and how long does it take the new skin to recover?
Also, if you or anyone has had this done, im wondering how much it hurts? :)
Oh yeah how much does it cost? haha sorry!

I had a laser/light treatment for that type of scarring last week and it took about a day for the swelling and redness to go away. However, the treatment brings the pigment to the surface before it goes away. So, my skin was extra dark in those areas for about a week (I still have a few spots that haven’t washed off yet). They say that the average person needs 2 to 6 treatments to fully get rid of scars. I’m going back for my 2nd treatment next week (you have to have them a minimum of 2 weeks apart). So far, I am really pleased. I think I’ll only need one or two more treatments. As far as the pain, it does hurt quite a bit. I’m a big baby though. The best way i can describe it is that it’s like someone snapping a rubber band on your face over and over. Some places (like the forehead and under eyes hurt more than the others). It cost $300 per treatment. Good luck!

Truthfully in my case it made my acne worse and then it went back to the way it was with no improvement. On top of that it gave me “racoon eyes” for two weeks due to the fact that one must wear goggles during the treatment and made my face very red and sensitive to the sun for a long time. Luckily with age my acne just cleared up on its own. Maybe the treatment will yield you better results.

Oh, and it hurts. Although i didn’t cry it felt like they were lighting matches on my face especially if you have facial hair because the light travels down the hair stands and burns deep
